    Do tags still matter?

Honestly, not much for ranking. YouTube says tags play a small role, mostly helping with misspellings. Your title, thumbnail and description matter far more. Many creators find similar results with very different tag strategies.

Where tags are useful is research. A competitor's tags show how they think about their topic: the keywords, phrases and related ideas they're targeting. Use that to sharpen your own title and description.

Why some videos show no tags

Tags are optional. If the creator didn't add any, there's nothing to extract — the tool will say so.
